Chapter 7:

The City In The Sky

It’s over. It’s finally over. It’s 11pm, your battle took several hours to complete.

“I could see it in your eyes when you came up. You are a truly powerful trainer.” Quote digs into his pocket, and gives you a badge. “This is the Toxic badge. When Quantum sees this, he’ll tell you everything.”

You give him a strange look, unsure what he meant.

“I’ll tell you what I know, and then maybe you will understand. In the beginning there was nothing. This world was created by Porygon2, or the divine pory. When making his world, Porygon2 used Pokemon source code. He decided that in order for all of the Pokemon to be happy, he had to separate the world into districts. Each district has one “tier” of Smogon pokemon. People populated each region, but only used Pokemon in their respective “meta”. There was a church of Porygon, where everyone worshiped Porygon at his creation. Porygon never really directly talked to anyone other than members of his church. As the number of known Pokemon increased, Porygon2 could no longer handle the meta on his own. He created the council, which consisted of the 5 best trainers from the Capital Region. If a Pokemon got too powerful in a respective region, it would be relocated to another region where it was no longer too powerful. If a pokemon was too weak for a respective region, it was dropped so it could gain relative strength. The world was peaceful in the council's hands, moving Pokemon from region to region peacefully”

“However, sometimes Pokemon would seem to disappear from the world entirely and no longer exist. TheQuantumJumper, one of the regions top scientists, felt something was off one day. He decided to dedicate his life to what was a faint memory. Something about Landorus made him curious. There was a Thundo-I, a Torn-I but yet… no Lando-I. “

“Many people make fun of TheQuantumJumper saying there was never a Lando-I, and he lost all of his credibility in the region. However, there are rumors that he actually discovered that Porygon was abusing his power and removing Pokemon from the world, such as Landorus-Incarnate. When the Great Tilt occurred, Quantum was nowhere to be found. Many assumed that he was dead.”

You are confused. You have no idea where this is going.

“But, he isn’t dead. Somehow forseeing the event, he fled to the tops of the mountains surrounding the capital.” Quote points upward at something that looks like a castle.

“A few people were convinced that Quantum knew the truth, and went looking for them. They were called ‘airheads’. These loyal followers found Quantum, and built that castle for him.”

“Quantum knows the true secrets of the council, but he's likely to be hostile to you. He allows no one in other than the ‘airheads’... but I have faith that with that badge, he will let you in.”” Quote takes out his Skarmory out of its Pokeball. “Skarmory will take you there

Soaring upwards gently atop Quote’s Skarmory, you eventually pierce the heavy cloud layer that had kept the peak of the mountain from your sight, revealing a small but developed city perched on supports surrounding the summit. As you gain more altitude, you see a swathe of solar panels taking up a large space of this main halo-like structure, and begin to spot several other buildings nestled within the surrounding mountainsides. Thankfully, Quote’s Skarmory seems to know the way, and makes for a relatively clear space on the edge of the main halo. As you approach, you notice that you aren’t alone. Flocks of flying types maintain a course parallel to yours, though they keep their distance. They quickly disperse as you land, however, and as you dismount Skarmory you note the platform is deserted, save yourself and Skarmory. There are no apparent paths out to the rest of the city, but Skarmory appears to be certain in its landing zone. The sun lazily makes its way across the open sky.

Eventually, a door you didn’t see inlaid in a wall slides opens with a hiss, and a man in a lab coat steps forth. Something in his stride gives you the impression that he isn’t particularly happy to see you. He closes half the distance with his hurried strides before stopping and finally addressing you. “Exactly who are you?” he asks, disdain tactile in his voice. Before you can answer he continues: “No no no that doesn’t matter, if you came atop that Skarmory that means Quote’s sent you”. He looks out to the horizon off the landing platform for a moment, seemingly lost in thought. Sharply he turns back to you and the same sharpness is carried on his voice as he speaks again. “Alright. So presumably you’ve somehow defeated Quote, which is nice and all, but you have no idea what lies ahead. Since the Great Tilt, I’ve lived in this city…”

His eyes look somber. “During the time before The Great Tilt, I was a scientist known as TheQuantumJumper, though now I only go by TQJ”

He is silent for a moment, and sighs. “I led so many advances, but eventually one of my discoveries led to tragedy. It led to - The Great Tilt.” He turns to look directly at you again, and you can see a fire in his eyes. “I refuse to regret the decisions I made that led to this, but perhaps Quote is onto something and you can fix this disaster. But you’ll need to prove yourself to me personally as well. Surely you understand.”

Meet TQJ, The Scientist Of The Sky

  • TQJ is a fairly quiet man. However, if you ask about his work, he will not be able to stop talking, and won't let you change the subject. Many people avoid asking about his work for this vary reason.
  • TQJ has been known to be able to be in a lot of different places in a short amount of time. Whenever he is asked about how he does it, he just winks.
  • TQJ's Landorus-Incarnate makes him one of the most powerful trainers in the land. However, his team is flawed, as it is full of flying types that share a lot of common weaknesses (Ice, Electric & Rock)
